Small earthquake detected in county
Some Cullman County residents may have been a little shaken Tuesday after a small earthquake was detected.
The United States Geological Survey reports that a magnitude 1.7 earthquake occurred at 2:38 p.m., with an epicenter located a few miles southwest of Holly Pond.
The earthquake was detected 3.1 miles beneath the earth’s surface, and marks the second earthquake for Alabama in 2018 after a magnitude 1.8 earthquake was detected in Jackson County on Monday.
