Earl D. Askew
Earl D. Askew, age 74, of County Line, went to meet his Lord and Savior on Saturday, March 19, 2011.
Mr. Askew was a veteran of the Korean War, a member of County Line Baptist Church for 54 years being ordained as a deacon since 1971. He worked at Calvert and Youngblood Coal Company, Alabama By-Products and Drummond Coal for a total of 34 years in the coal industry. He later served as the Blount County Commissioner for District 4.
Mr. Askew was preceded in death by his parents, Houston and Jackie (Holt) Askew; his daughter, Sherry Askew Ledlow; brothers, Houston and Jack Askew.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Juanita Cato Askew; son-in-law, Roger Ledlow; grandchildren, Jason (Torie) Ledlow, Heather Ledlow; great-grandchildren, Joshua and Caleb Ledlow; sisters, Imogene Roberts of Chelsea, Virginia Young of Muscle Shoals and Jane Sanchez of San Clemente; sisters-in-law, Gail Askew of Houston and Jean Askew of Tupelo.
Mr. Askew’s funeral service is scheduled for Wednesday, March 23, 2011 at County Line Baptist Church with Rev. Rick Cato, Dr. Jerry Scott and Rev. Roy Spears officiating. He will lie-in-state between the hours of 1 p.m. until service time beginning at 2 p.m. Interment will follow in the adjoining cemetery.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers will be Van Mulvehill, Robert Clay, Kyle Mulvehill, Randy Calvert, Bobby Young and Buddy Mulvehill.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, March 22, 2011 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Messmer Goodwin Funeral Home Chapel.
