Football: Prattville Christian 27, Fultondale 13
PRATTVILLE — Quarterback E.J. Spencer put Prattville Christian ahead for good almost single-handedly, as he ran for two first-quarter touchdowns and threw a pass for another in the Lions’ 27-13 victory over Fultondale on Friday night.
Spencer ran in untouched from the 2-yard line, then scored again from one yard out less than two minutes later. He then scrambled to his left to avoid a Fultondale rush, and found Tyler Bell open for a 34-yard scoring strike with 24 seconds left in the opening period.
The Wildcats broke through with 8:41 left in the half, when quarterback James Gowdy connected with Jalen Haynes on a 13-yard TD pass. The pair struck again late in the third quarter, this time for 28 yards.
Linebacker Thomas Drey scored the other Lions’ touchdown when he intercepted a Gowdy pass and ran it back 42 yards to the end zone.
Fultondale had the advantage in the statistics, gaining 284 yards compared to Prattville’s 227. Much of the difference came in turnovers — the Cats lost three fumbles plus the pick-six. The Lions fumbled the ball away twice.
Gowdy was 10-for-22 in passing for 126 yards. Haynes caught three passes for 41 yards.
Walter Blair led the Fultondale ground game with 49 yards on 14 carries.
The Wildcats (2-2, 1-2 region) host winless Beulah this Friday night.
