Football: Mortimer Jordan QB Devlin Hodges verbally commits to Southern Miss

Mortimer Jordan starting quarterback Devlin Hodges has made his choice of where to play college ball.

Hodges confirmed to The North Jefferson News on Monday — via Facebook, as is the norm in this Internet age — that he has made a verbal commitment to play at the University of Southern Mississippi, a longtime Conference USA power.

The Golden Eagles had a string of 16 straight winning seasons until Ellis Johnson went 0-12 (and out) in 2012. Todd Monken has taken over.

Southern Miss is best known for two famous alumni in the NFL: former MVP quarterback Brett Favre and punter Ray Guy.

Hodges was on the radar of several SEC teams, including Alabama and Ole Miss, prior to his verbal commitment.
