Softball roundup: Jordan still in USA Today top 25; Corner, Devils top final state poll
Mortimer Jordan kept its position in the bottom spot of the National Fastpitch Coaches Association/USA Today Top 25 poll this week.
The Blue Devils made their debut in the national rankings last week, the only Alabama team to do so and one of five teams from the southeast.
Meanwhile, Jordan is the top team in the final Alabama Sports Writers Association Class 5A rankings, an honor which it has held since the first poll of the season.
Corner has also kept its top spot in Class 4A, where it has been all season.
Fultondale remains in the Class 2A poll in the tenth spot.
Corner 8, Walker 7
Shannen Tolbert’s two-run double in the top of the seventh guided the Yellow Jackets to a comeback win over the Vikings.
Mandy Slatton hit an RBI triple, and also hit a fly ball that was dropped by Walker’s center fielder, allowing two runs to score.
Kortney Sloan threw 13 strikeouts in the win. She also hit a double in the seventh, but was thrown out at the plate on a fielder’s choice.

Blair Johnson threw four perfect innings and six strikeouts, then Heather Parker finished with one hit and five K’s over three innings as the Devils blanked the Eagles Thursday.
Morgan Estell and Haylie McCleney each hit triples in the first inning, and Johnson had two doubles. She and Estell each had two RBIs.
