Devils 12th at state cross country
Mortimer Jordan’s boys cross country team finished 12th in Saturday’s AHSAA Class 5A State Championship at Oakville Indian Mounds Park near Moulton.
Jeff Hall led the Blue Devils with a time of 19:34.91 over the five-kilometer course, good for 81st place in the field of 150 runners. Tyler Savage (19:34.91), Taylor Williams (20:37.18), Devin Hodo (20:50.38), Jake Grooms (20:58.18), Adam Ewing (22:16.14) and Josh Grooms (22:37.38) also ran for Jordan.
Scottsboro won the championship by a narrow nine-point margin over Briarwood Christian. Scottsboro’s Lucas Sieb was the individual winner, finishing with a time of 16:23.99.
In the girls’ race, Jordan’s Haylee Cornelius and Kelsey Parrish competed as individual entries. Cornelius finished with a time of 27:27.20, good for 110th place, and Parrish ran the course in 31:51.12, good for 128th place. Scottsboro won its eighth straight Class 5A girls championship with five runners in the top seven places.
