Softball: Yellow Jackets roll, Rockets shut out at Corner tournament
Corner toppled a rival and two bigger schools, while Gardendale went 0-4 in the Corner Round Robin tournament Friday night and Saturday.
Corner 7, Gardendale 3 (5 innings): Taylor Sloan’s two-run hit highlighted a four-run rally that won the game for the Yellow Jackets in the fourth.
Jordan Entrekin went 3-1/3 innings and gave up four hits for the win. Kristin Lange got the loss, allowing eight hits and five runs in 2-1/3 innings. Caroline Casaday was 3-for-3 with an RBI, and Lange had a two-run double for the Rockets.
Corner 6, Springville 5 (6 innings): The Yellow Jackets came storming back from a 5-0 deficit, scoring six runs in the final inning. Lillian Blackmon drove in the two winning runs with a two-out single up the middle.
Madison McCormack struck out six Tigers for the win, while losing pitcher McKinley Tribble fanned nine; she allowed just one hit before the Jackets’ late rally.
Corner 3, Spain Park 1 (5 innings): Blackmon did it again in the game against the Jags, driving in her sister Leslie and Hillary Farris with a two-out double in the fourth inning. Preslie Cruce scored Corner’s first run on a first-inning passed ball.
St. Clair County 4, Corner 3 (6 innings, tiebreaker): Alycen Johnson drove in her sister Ashley from second base to score the go-ahead run for the Saints. Cruce had a double and two-RBI single for the Jackets.
Springville 11, Gardendale 4 (4 innings): Tiger pitcher McKinley Tribble held the Rockets to two hits over three innings. Taylor Dailey’s fourth-inning hit drove in two Gardendale runs. Chelsey Deloney was 2-for-2 with a run-scoring double.
St. Clair County 2, Gardendale 1 (6 innings): Cris Gant (9-9) was tagged with the loss despite allowing just four hits in 5-2/3 innings. Casaday had a double and scored the lone run.
Spain Park 8, Gardendale 5: The Jaguars won on Hannah Camp’s three-run homer in the seventh.
Camp was 3-for-4 and batted in five runs, and Erin Hornsby was 2-for-3 for the Jags.
Carrigan Fain hit two doubles and drove in a run, and Kasey Lange hit a two-run double for the Rockets (16-15). Kristin Lange (6-6) gave up 10 hits over 6-1/3 innings.

Good Hope 8, Hayden 4: Defensive lapses resulted in several unearned runs for the Red Raiders in Monday’s game.
Meagan Holt and Destiny Busby, the first two batters in the Wildcat order, each had three hits with Busby also reaching on a hit-by-pitch. The pair scored all four Hayden runs, the latter two on a passed ball. Mara Conner had an RBI double.
Katie Parr pitched six innings in two separate spells, allowing three hits and striking out four.
