Corner students celebrate reading
Special to The North Jefferson News
Balloons and excitement filled the air at Corner Elementary March 6 as students and teachers released balloons as a part of the school’s Read Across America celebration.
The balloons had notes attached with students’ favorite books and a request for the person who finds the balloon to write them about their favorite book.
Vicki Brasher, Corner Elementary’s assistant principal, received a call the next day at 7:30 a.m. from a parent in Roanoke, Virginia. They had found a balloon and his Kindergartener had taken it to school to share with his class
The entire week of March 3, Corner students and teachers celebrated reading.
Kindergarten students paraded through the halls as their favorite book characters.
Students wrote book recommendations and letters to their favorite authors.
Special guest readers came to the classrooms to share their love of reading.
The culminating activity was Friday when everyone wore their pajamas to school to remember to “Relax and Read.”
The week was a great reminder that reading is fun.
