Corner spring concert
Corner High School will have a spring concert on May 4 at 7 p.m. in the new performing arts center on the new Corner campus.
“It’s a great sound, and a great facility,” said Rick Coggin, band director for the Corner High School symphonic band. “It’s new, it’s very updated, and it’s a larger facility.” Coggin said most of their old performances have been in school gyms, and that he is excited about getting into a building with good acoustics.
Both the symphonic band and the Corner Middle School band will be performing. Dr. Jon Remley, the band supervisor for the Arts Education department of the Jefferson County Board of Education, will be guest conducting the band’s performance of Modest Mussorgsky’s “Pictures at an Exhibition.” Allen Warren, a former Corner High School student and alto saxophone player, will perform a solo during the song as well.
The bands will also play the following pieces:
• ”Mambo Cubano” by James Swearingen
• “Haunted Carnival” by Rob Grice
• “Lake Tahoe Cameo” by Lenny Niehaus
• “Celebration in Song”
• “Canticle of the Saints” by Ed Huckeby
There will be a reception after the concert in the new Corner band room.
