Four Yellow Jackets sign with Bevill softball

Another batch of local high school softball players are headed to Sumiton.

Four players from Corner, which was last year’s Class 4A state runner-up, signed scholarships to play for Bevill State Community College.

Sisters Marissa and Kayla Estes, along with teammates Heather Johnson and Lindsey Cannon, signed their papers in a ceremony Thursday night at Percy Vines Gymnasium.

The foursome are part of a regular stream of players from northern Jefferson County to Bevill. Two other Corner players are with the Bears, plus a trio from the 2008 state champs at Mortimer Jordan — including state MVP Michelle Cheatwood, whose father is now an assistant for Bears head coach Ricky Howell.

Heather is the daughter of John Mark and Lori Anderson. Lindsey is the daughter of Terry and Paula Cannon.

Marissa and Kayla, who transferred to Corner over the summer, are the daughters of David and Jamie Estes.
