Volleyball: Corner sweeps Mortimer Jordan, Parrish in tri-match

Corner got its volleyball season off to a flying start with an opening-day tri-match sweep, including its first win over Mortimer Jordan in many years.

The Yellow Jackets beat Parrish 25-15, 25-6 in the opening match, and downed the Blue Devils 19-25, 27-25, 15-10 in the nightcap.

Junior setter Cheyenne Bryant paced Corner in both matches, with six aces, four kills and 13 assists in the win over the Tornadoes and six digs, three kills and 14 assists against Jordan.

Outside hitter Bailee Hammock recorded seven kills, and right-side hitter MacKenzie Wiley recorded seven digs and four aces in the win over Parrish.

Wiley also racked up 13 digs and four aces against the Devils, and defensive specialist Kyndell Abbott had five aces and nine digs.

Corner travels to Cordova on Tuesday, while Jordan takes part in the Juanita Boddie Invitational tournament at the Birmingham Crossplex on Friday and Saturday.
