Football: Corner junior high, B-team sweeps Locust Fork
Corner and Locust Fork played a doubleheader in junior high and B-team football, with the Yellow Jackets getting the sweep by winning the junior high game 21-6 and holding off the Hornets 18-14 in the B-team nightcap.
In the junior high game, Corner built a 21-0 halftime lead and survived a fumble-filled second half to get the victory. Jackets quarterback Devne Daniel ran for touchdowns of 17 and 1 yards, and threw 19 yards to Chase Goodwin for another score.
Locust Fork drove 86 yards and scored on the game’s final play as Daniel Goss tossed a 5-yard pass to Cole Winguard.
In the nightcap, Locust Fork scored on the game’s first play as Hayden Jackson raced 65 yards for a touchdown. Micheal Reid threw to Alex Long for the 2-point conversion to give the Hornets an early 8-0 lead.
Corner’s Chris Huff came back to toss the first of his 3 touchdown passes, this one to Josh Sanford on a 53-yard catch. The try for two points failed leaving the Hornets up 8-6.
Corner would score twice more in the final 27 seconds of the first half. Huff found Chase Best from 11 yards away to make it 12-8 in favor of the Yellow Jackets. After a quick interception of a Locust Fork pass, Huff found Sanford from 24 yards out on the last play of the first half to put Corner up 18-8.
The Hornets closed the gap with 3:50 left in the game as Reid found Alex Long on a 45-yard TD pass. On their ensuing possession, the Yellow Jacket offense kept possession of the ball for the remainder of the game to take the win.
