Football: Munford 47, Corner 7
Corner’s 2012 season got off to a rough start on the road Friday, as they fell to Munford 47-7.
Lions quarterback Monteo Garrett ran for three touchdowns and threw a pass for another. Garrett scored on a 75-yard run midway through the second quarter, a 34-yard run with 0:00.6 left in the first half, and then a 14-yard run midway through the third period. He found tight end Dustin Haynes on an 18-yard scoring pass to open the second stanza.
Yellow Jackets quarterback Blake Byrd scored his team’s only touchdown on a 46-yard run with 9:28 left in the first half.
Kyle Franklin also scored for the Lions on a 91-yard run in the second half, just after Corner kicker Troy Elliott pinned them back with a punt to their own 9-yard-line. Franklin finished with 122 yards for the night.
Byrd finished with 114 yards rushing on 22 carries, but was 3-for-16 with three interceptions in passing. All three picks came off deflections by his own receivers, one in the end zone; two interceptions came from Jay Scales.
Garrett gained 200 yards on 14 carries to lead the Lions’ ground attack.
Cody Gilbert and Dustin Creasman each had interceptions for the Jackets.
Elliott attempted a 50-yard field goal late, but was short.
