Football: Corner 42, West Blocton 6

Corner got its regional schedule off to a good start, as they routed West Blocton 42-6 on Friday night.

The Yellow Jackets (1-1, 1-0 region) did all their scoring on the ground, as Taylor Crawford had touchdowns of 58 and 20 yards.

Quarterback Chase Best opened the scoring five minutes into the game on a 10-yard run. After Jon Bassett tackled a Tiger ball carrier in their end zone for a safety, Hunter Doppler scored with a minute left in the first quarter on a 17-yard run.

Crawford got the first of his two scores four minutes into the second quarter, and the second followed five minutes later.

Deshay Averhart ran for a 2-yard touchdown with 2:07 left before intermission. Freshman quarterback Devne Daniel came off the bench in the fourth quarter for a 2-yard scoring run.

The Jackets took advantage of three interceptions; the Tigers also fumbled the ball eight times, turning it over three. Corner also had control problems with four fumbles, but lost the ball just once.

Crawford gained an even 100 yards on nine carries. Chris Huff came in at quarterback for Best in the second quarter, going 7-for-8 for 123 yards. Dylan Hand and Dylan Adamson each logged 61 yards receiving.

Jake Averhart had another big game on defense with 17 tackles, and Hunter Averhart added 11.

Corner travels to next-door neighbor Dora next Friday night, the start of a five-game road spell. West Blocton drops to 0-2.
