According to head coach Jeff Smith, the Corner football team needs to eliminate costly mistakes. If they do, he thinks the club will go a long way toward breaking through with a region win.
“We’re young, but we’re also inexperienced,” Smith said. “We’ve got some older guys who have never played on the varsity until this year. As they gain the experience we expect the mistakes to be eliminated.”
The Jackets will face a tough test Friday when they travel to Dora, to match up with the Bulldog’s Wing-T attack.
“They’re a big and physical team,” Smith said. “They have a good offensive line and two really good defensive tackles. We need to hold our own up front if we’re going to win this week.”
The Jackets started fast last week and held a 6-0 lead against West Point, but after the Warriors took a 7-6 lead, West Point took control with their ground game.
“We need to establish the run,” Smith said. “We haven’t done that yet this year.”
