Frances Elizabeth Griffin Gowins, former resident of Gardendale, passed away on August 13, 2008 at the age of 80. Graveside services will be held Sunday, August 17 at 3 p.m. in Oakwood Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be on Saturday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Ridout’s Gardendale Chapel. She was preceded in death by her husband Eugene C. Gowins and her parents George and Ellen Catherine Wren Griffin. She is survived by her children Tim Gowins (Betty), Eileen Ponder (Michael), Stephen Gowins (Karen) and Terrell Gowins; grandchildren Brian Gowins (Lisa), Rebecca Boucher (Phillippe) and David Ponder; great-grandchild William Griffin Gowins; Step great grandchildren Madeline, Aidan and Liam Fryc; sisters Helen Montgomery (George) and Mary Catherine McKinstry.
