Snow, cold temps possible Tuesday
The weather should stay warm through the weekend, but a strong cold front moving into Alabama on Tuesday will bring a chance of snow.
Brian Carcione, a meteorologist at the National Weather Service office in Huntsville, said there is a chance of precipitation when the cold front is moving in, but the possibility of snow depends on the speed in which the front moves into the area and how long the precipitation sticks around.
“It’s too early to say how much or how heavy, but there is a chance of snow,” he said.
While there is a chance for snow, the effects of the cold front will be strong even if there is no accumulation on the ground, Carcione said.
“People will feel the impact more than they might see the impact,” he said.
He said the predicted high temperature on Monday is around 59 degrees, but Tuesday’s high will struggle to get above freezing, and the low for Tuesday night will be around 17 degrees.
“It’s a very strong cold front,” he said. “It’ll definitely feel a lot colder because of the strength of the front.”
The winds will make the temperature seem even colder, with a wind chill of around 10 degrees or even in the single digits for Tuesday night, Carcione said.
The weather service has predicted an 80 percent chance of precipitation Tuesday. For Wednesday, temperatures will stay cold, with a high near 36 and a low of around 23.
Once the front moves through the area, the end of the week will still likely be colder than usual, but it should be a little higher than Tuesday and Wednesday’s with temperatures in the low to mid 40s, Carcione said.
“Right now, it looks like it will rebound a little,” he said.
