Mortimer Jordan 34, A.P. Brewer 27: Washington has two pick-sixes in Devils’ win
Mortimer Jordan’s defense stole the show Friday night by making three touchdowns in a 34-27 win over A.P. Brewer.
Senior Rod Washington was the Blue Devils’ standout, making eight tackles and three interceptions — two of which were taken to the house for touchdowns. Washington also had a blocked point-after kick and two pass breakups.
The Patriots started off the scoring on a 2-yard run by Madison Mann with 1:52 left in the first quarter.
Mortimer Jordan (3-1, 2-1 region) answered with a 63-yard run by Marquis Dobbs, tying the score 7-7 with 1:36 in the first quarter.
The Devils scored again with 6:43 left in the second with an interception return by Washington for 34 yards.
Brewer tied the score again with a 70-yard kickoff return, then jumped ahead with 6:22 left in the first half, with an interception off of quarterback Orion Recke. Brewer’s Taylor Bowling ran 34 yards on the interception.
To tie the score yet again, the Blue Devils’ Dobbs ran in a touchdown on a 58-yard bomb with 4:37 in the third quarter.
A second Mortimer Jordan interception, this time by Justin Mack with 4:28 in the third, ended in a 35-yard touchdown return to put Jordan ahead again. Mack later had a big fumble recovery during a key drive.
Washington’s third interception return put Jordan up 34-21.
Brewer scored, with a 70-yard pass with 1:48 left in the fourth quarter. Washington had one more big play left in him, as he blocked the extra point.
Dobbs had 15 carries for 160 yards and two touchdowns. D.J. Robbins had 13 tackles and two sacks.
