Blue Devils shut out the Yellow Jackets, 24-0

JASPER — The Mortimer Jordan Blue Devils traveled to Curry Friday night and shut out the Yellow Jackets, 24-0.
The win was a big one for the Blue Devils, after dropping their season opener last week. The victory also assured the Blue Devils of starting region play off with a win.
After a tough defensive slugfest in the first quarter, Brett Nation broke the game open in the second quarter after taking a Curry punt back 58 yards for a score.
Nation broke four tackles on his way to a touchdown.
After a Tyler Kimbrough point-after, the Blue Devils led 7-0.
Late in the first quarter, they added to their lead when Kimbrough kicked a 39-yard field goal to make the score 10-0 at the half.
On Jordan’s first possession in the second half, the Blue Devils drove the ball 64 yards in 6 plays.
Quarterback Jon Paul Mott snuck it in from two yards out for a touchdown. Another Kimbrough point-after put the score at 17-0.
The Jordan defense dominated the Yellow Jackets offense the entire night, allowing only six first downs and holding the Yellow Jackets spread offense to only 15 completions in 33 attempts for 120 yards.
Mortimer Jordan’s strong defensive front limited Curry to only 42 yards on the ground for a total of only 162 total yards. Next week, the Blue Devils will face another spread team, when they host 5A, Region 6 foe Gardendale at Jimmie Trotter Stadium.
In the fourth quarter, Nation scored an amazing 54-yard run from the scrimmage, breaking two tackles for a touchdown.
After a final point-after, the final score was 24-0.
Nation finished as the game’s leading ground gainer as he ran for 140 yards on 9 carries.
Ryan Abston ran 21 times for 57 yards to aid the rushing attack.
The Blue Devils missed out on more scoring chances, as they lost 3 fumbles on the night.
The Jordan offense finished with 334 total yards, with only 56 coming through the air.
