HANCEVILLE — Dallin Dinkle rushed for 281 yards and two touchdowns on a career-high 47 carries, Vinemont’s defense recorded three fourth-quarter interceptions, and the Eagles went into Ray Talley Stadium on Friday night and exited with a 26-12 victory over the Bulldogs.

Jack Hill also completed a pair of touchdown passes to Colby Miller to help Vinemont move to 2-2 overall and 1-1 in Class 3A, Region 5 play following the road win.

Hanceville, meanwhile, dropped to 2-3, 1-2 on the season.

“I’m thrilled with the way we fought,” coach Stephen Robinson said. “Way too many mistakes. Three turnovers by us. The defense got some, though, so that helped. Our effort is awesome. We’re playing with great effort right now, but we’re still having some missed assignments. Overall, we stayed patient with the offense — it’s kind of new for us — and I feel like it’s paying off for us. Eventually, we wore ‘em down and mashed ‘em. It worked out well.”

The Eagles jumped ahead 8-0 following Dinkle’s 19-yard touchdown run and subsequent 2-point conversion in the latter stages of the opening stanza.

The home team, though, responded midway through the second quarter with a 21-yard touchdown toss from Zach Campbell to Brodie Malcom to make it 8-6.

But Vinemont added its final touchdown of the first half — a 9-yard strike from Hill to Miller — to push its lead back to eight just before halftime.

The Eagles went ahead 20-6 early in the third frame following another touchdown pass (7 yards) from Hill to Miller, but Hanceville answered right back on its ensuing possession with a 36-yard scoring toss from Campbell to Logan Guthery to make it a one-score game (20-12) once again.

But Dinkle was simply too much to handle.

The senior running back found the end zone from 36 yards away — just one play after Gabe Friedrich recovered a fumble — to put the Red and White in front 26-12.

Vinemont’s defense took care of the rest.

Bryce Perkins had two interceptions in the final 12 minutes, while Miller added another to turn back any attempt by the Bulldogs to cut into the deficit.

The former’s second pick came at the goal line as time expired.

“I think it started last week for us right before halftime versus Midfield,” Robinson said. “That momentum for us just carried over. We’ve got to get some guys healthy, but it was a good night for us. Proud to be an Eagle.”

Hill completed 3 of 5 passes for 17 yards and two touchdowns.

Miller hauled in two receptions for 16 yards and a pair of scores.

Dinkle, however, was the workhorse for the Eagles on Friday night.

“He’s a tremendous worker,” Robinson said. “He works harder than anybody, and he’s humble. He played every snap on defense, too, I think. I wish we had a lot more like him.”

Campbell was 5 of 14 through the air for 134 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions. He added 52 rushing yards on 10 attempts.

Bo Joles, meanwhile, netted 82 yards on 12 carries.

Malcom (three catches for 92 yards and a touchdown) and Guthery (three catches for 49 yards and a touchdown) put together solid performances as well.

Both teams step outside their region next week.

Vinemont hosts Addison, while Hanceville heads to Curry.
