PREP BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: West Point claims 65-58 home win over Good Hope; Lady Warriors move to 13-2

WEST POINT — West Point’s varsity boys took down Good Hope 65-58 at home on Friday night.

The Warriors, who with the victory improved to 6-9 this season, were led offensively by Kolton Sapp’s 20 points.

Tyler White (12) and Whitt Laney (11) also netted crucial buckets for coach Randy Jones.

“We got up 10, but they made a run on us and cut it to two,” Jones said. “We got some big stops and made our free throws down the stretch. I can’t pick out one guy for us. That’s one of the best team efforts we’ve had. To beat Good Hope, you’ve got to have that. They’re a good team. I’m proud of my guys’ effort tonight.”

Kobe Bowers (seven), Will Cochran (seven), Tyler Thompson (four), Aubry Cleghorn (two) and Rylan Jones (two) capped off the scoring for West Point.

The Raiders, meanwhile, dropped to 8-3 following the loss.

Cole Maddox (20), Drew Maddox (15) and Michael Lowe (11) recorded double figures for Good Hope.

Tanner Malin (five), Noah Fendley (three), Eli Phares (two) and Matt Dixon (two) also scored.

% Arab 66, Holly Pond 58: The Broncos fell to 8-7 this season following Friday’s road defeat.

Kyler Chaney led Holly Pond with 28 points. 

Brody Rowell (nine), Tyler Boatright (nine) and Isaac Ludwig (eight) also contributed.


Varsity Girls

% West Point 66, Good Hope 36: Mackenzie Carter (17), Lexi Shadix (16) and Miriam Oldacre (14) racked up double-digit performances for the Lady Warriors in Friday’s home victory over the Lady Raiders.

West Point improved to 13-2 this season following the win.

Sheridan Bowers (six), Micah Oldacre (five), Molly Pendley (three), Maci Hamby (three) and Sydney Smith (two) also contributed offensively for the Lady Warriors.

“Good Hope is going to be good the next few years,” West Point coach John Welborn said. “We’re just trying to play with different lineups because of injuries. We’ve got to have other girls step up.”

Rudi Derrick led Good Hope with nine points. 

Savanna Burney (six), Cayleigh Garmon (six), Heather Tetro (four), Desire’ Odachowski (four), Abby Neighbors (three), Ivey Maddox (two) and Savanna Derrick (two) rounded out the scoring for the road team.

% Cold Springs 51, Lauderdale County 36: Elizabeth Hill (18) and Toni West (16) helped propel the Class 2A No. 3 Lady Eagles to a victory in the Buffalo Wild Wings Christmas Challenge at Wallace State on Friday.

Cold Springs (12-4) has now won six straight games and 10 of its past 11.

Camryn Crider totaled eight points as well for coach Tammy West’s squad.

% Arab 43, Holly Pond 34: The Lady Broncos came up short on the road on Friday.

Maddie Heatherly (10) and Maddi Ham (eight) were the top scorers for Holly Pond, which fell to 6-8 this season.

Elizabeth Miller and Tate Duke added five apiece.
