Hanceville’s Kelly Pickett will continue her basketball journey at Shorter University.

The senior standout announced her commitment to the Division II Lady Hawks last week.

Shorter competes in the Gulf South Conference and is located in Rome, Ga.

Pickett averaged 18.2 points, 5.1 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game during her junior season.

She also netted All-State (Class 3A third team), All-Area and All-County honors, eclipsed 1,000 career points and notched 91 steals.

“The good Lord has given me a great opportunity to play at Shorter University,” Pickett said. “I am so thankful. I am blessed beyond measure to be playing the sport I’ve worked so hard to be successful at. I’m grateful to my coaches, who have helped me accomplish my dream. My parents have sacrificed a lot of time and have supported me through everything.

“And to the kids who have the same dream as me — have confidence in your game and just let it fly.”
