Two bank branches will closing in August and September, respectively, but those institutions are not leaving Cullman.
Wells Fargo’s Main branch in Cullman will close Sept. 18.
Regions Bank is also consolidating its Alabama 157 branch into the 2nd Avenue office by Aug. 23.
Regions sent notices to customers in May.
“We are consolidating that branch by Aug. 23. It’s something all banks are having to look at with traffic and transactions at individual sites,” said Mel Campbell, a spokesman for Regions.
Wells Fargo announced in 2018 that it would close 800 branches by 2020. The bank closed more than 200 branches in 2017.
Jamee Nelson, a corporate communications official for Wells Fargo, said notices have been sent to local customers about the closing.
“We will continue to operate the South branch at Town Square, which has Saturday banking,” Nelson said.
Nelson said employees at the Main branch on 2nd Avenue will be assisted with job searches or they can apply for other openings in the company.
“We make decisions like this based on trends and traffic,” Nelson said.
She did not report how many employees are in the main branch in Cullman.
Nelson said the Town Square office will operate on a schedule of Monday-Thursday, 9 a.m.-4 p.m.; Friday, 9 a.m.- 5 p.m.; and Saturday. 9 a.m.-1 p.m.
