Police have charged Charles Patrick Wayne Burgess, 28, with murder in connection with a Saturday night shooting on Dripping Springs Road in Cullman.

The victim was identified as Thomas “Tommy” L. Piper, 49, of Cullman.

Cullman Police Department officers were called 1325 Dripping Springs Road NW at 7:09 p.m. Saturday and found a man who had been shot and was dead.

Burgess was detained for questioning and then charged a few hours after the shooting. He is in the Cullman County Detention Center.

The investigation is ongoing.
