Cullman police have released the name of a young woman rushed to Cullman Regional Medical Center Monday after her car slammed into a power pole on U.S. 31 South and flipped.

The one-vehicle wreck happened shortly before 11 a.m. just south of Maple Drive in front of North Alabama Auto Sales. The female driver, who was the lone occupant, was taken to the hospital by Cullman EMS.

Cullman police identified the driver as Haley Nicole Eatmon, approximately 20 years old, of Cullman County. The Times is waiting to hear back from a CRMC spokeswoman about her condition.

Cullman police said Eatmon was heading south on U.S. 31 and apparently veered off the road, striking the power pole which snapped. Cullman Power Board employees shut off power to the down line.

The car with a Cullman County tag was flipped over on the driver’s side facing north in the southbound lane. Witnesses who rushed outside after hearing the wreck said the female was alert and talking to firefighters and paramedics at the scene. They said someone picked up her cell phone and a person was on the line.

Cullman firefighters broke out the windows of the car to extricate the victim, and it appeared the airbag deployed. Cullman police said Eatmon was wearing a seatbelt.

The cause of the wreck is under investigation. Officers detoured southbound traffic while crews cleared the scene.
