Four people were injured Wednesday afternoon in a three-vehicle wreck on U.S. 278 East in Cullman when a vehicle crossed over into traffic coming from the west.

A PT Cruiser was eastbound when it veered into westbound lane around 5:15 p.m., according to Cullman Police Sgt. Terry Gilliland.

One of the four people taken to Cullman Regional Medical Center was a child taken as a precaution. The girl was seen standing and talking to emergency personnel.

The wreck involved the PT Cruiser, a Chevrolet pickup truck and a Mercedes Benz. The injuries occurred in the pickup truck and PT Cruiser, Gilliland said.

Four ambulances were dispatched to the scene as well as several police patrol units and firefighters. Traffic was slowed for well over an hour in the eastbound lane of the highway.

No further information was available Wednesday. The accident remains under investigation.
