Alabama State Troopers have released the names of a Blount County couple who were killed in a Monday afternoon accident near Hanceville.

Donald Ferguson, 47, and Jayne Ferguson, 54, both of Hayden, were pronounced dead at the scene Monday. Both appeared to have been ejected from the pickup truck as it traveled south on U.S. 31. A Hanceville police official who was involved in the initial investigation said it appeared one of the vehicles hydroplaned and went into the other lane. A second vehicle driven by Willie Crawford, 65, of Hanceville, collided with the truck driven by Donald Ferguson. Crawford was taken to Cullman Regional Medical Center for treatment.

State Troopers and Cullman County Sheriff’s Office deputies joined with Hanceville police officers in working at the scene and rerouted traffic for several hours as all four lanes of U.S. 31 were blocked during the investigation and cleanup.

Monday’s fatalities were the third deaths from traffic accidents in Cullman County since Friday.

A 21-year-old Hayden man died in a three-vehicle accident Friday on Alabama Highway 157 when his vehicle crossed over lanes into the path of northbound traffic, according to an official for the Cullman Police Department.
