Cullman County Coroner Jeremy Kilpatrick identified the victim as David Rouse, who was pronounced dead at the scene. Rouse was from Cullman County, but had addresses for Hanceville and Falkville, Kilpatrick said.

At around 8:15 p.m., Garden City and Hancevillle firefighters were called to the scene at the business where the vehicle drove off U.S. 31, into the building and was on fire, according to emergency dispatch reports.

Dispatch reports indicated the vehicle ran off U.S. 31 South, took down a gas pump at the Garden City Chevron and then ran into the upholstery shop.

The gas station, on the right side of the highway if traveling southbound, is more than a quarter-mile away from C & U Upholstery Supply Company, which sits on the left side of U.S. 31.
