Students from area schools were offered an incentive to attend the Veterans Day Program Nov. 4, at Cullman Regional Airport.

Welti Elementary School brought 21.15% of its total enrollment to the annual celebration and the Elks Veterans Day Committee rewarded the school with $2000.

Parkside Elementary came in a close second with 21.05% attending. West Point Middle School and Cold Springs High School also brought a good crowd.

West Point Elementary’s Abrielle Perry received $500 for bringing the most attendees to the event. The first-grader brought parents, Anna and Justin, and 13 other family members. It was Abrielle’s first time attending the event and she said she enjoyed it, but didn’t know how she’d spend her award.

Nearly 800 students were counted at the Elks tent during the event.

“It was a great opportunity for the students to be able to see and tour the actual military aircraft they read about in history books,” Chairman of the Veterans Day Program, Gwen Parker said in a press release.
