According to a release from the Pell City Police Department, School Resource Officers and Detectives from the Pell City Police Department began an investigation into sexual misconduct between a teacher at Williams Intermediate School and a Pell City High School student on April 29. A warrant for Gilley’s arrest was obtained on April 30, and in response she turned herself in to the Pell City Police Department.

Judge Alan Furr set Gilley’s bond at $100,000.

Gilley was a language arts teacher at Williams. She turned in her resignation to the Pell City School System following the charges.

Pell City Police report investigators worked closely with the St. Clair County District Attorney’s Office and Pell City School Superintendant Dr. Michael Barber. The offense, the release reads, did not involve a student from her school, did not happen during school hours, and did not occur on school property.

Gilley is the second teacher in St. Clair County arrested for sexual misconduct this week. On April 27, Ashville teacher Anthony Wright was taken into custody and charged with three counts of violating the Alabama’s school employee sex act.
