One person has died on Alabama 157 in Cullman after a vehicle reportedly ran up under an 18-wheeler tanker truck.

The identity of the victim, who is not from Cullman County, has not been released as officers seek to notify relatives, Cullman Police Chief Kenny Culpepper said.

The accident occurred about 5:33 p.m. near the 310 exit of Interstate 65 on Alabama 157. Traffic was slowed for hours after the wreck as fire and rescue workers were on the scene to make sure there were no leaks from the tanker truck.

Cullman Fire and Rescue officials were on hand to assist because the car was lodged up under the tanker truck. Culpepper said the vehicle was safely removed sometime after 7 p.m. The car was removed without causing any leakage from the tanker truck, Culpepper said.

The identity of the victim in the accident will not be released until relatives are notified.
