Jake Johnson was named the new assistant principal at Cullman High School as students prepare to return to class next Wednesday.

The Cullman City Board of Education hired Johnson, who previously served as assistant principal at Fairview Elementary, effective Wednesday. The appointment comes as CHS begins the school year with a new principal, Kim Hall, who was recently promoted from assistant principal.

Hall takes over after longtime Cullman City educator Elton Bouldin announced his retirement in June. Hiring Hall meant the school board had to quickly fill her position, and Johnson will serve alongside fellow assistant principal Mark Stephens.

In an unrelated matter Wednesday, the school board approved a probationary principal contract for Hall.
