GOOD HOPE — The Good Hope City Council showed its support for local schools Monday night when it presented its annual donation to the schools’ principals.
Good Hope High School received a check for $14,000, and the Middle, Elementary and Primary Schools each received $4,000 from the city.
“With the growth that the city has seen and will likely continue to see in coming years, the schools will grow with it, so they need continued support,” mayor Jerry Bartlett said.
“We want to support our city’s schools,” he said. “We’re proud of you and want to continue to support you.”
In other business, the council approved the purchase and installation of new security cameras on city properties, with a cost not to exceed $11,000.
Bartlett said the cameras would be placed at the Municipal Park overlooking the city’s new basketball court, and at the Family Park located next to the water treatment plant.
The Family Park recently had to have a $1,500 fence replaced due to vandalism. Bartlett said there have also been reports of people driving on the new basketball court to do donuts in their cars.
Councilwoman Susan Eller said she liked the idea of new cameras, and suggested one for City Hall as well.
“We spend money to have nice things for the community,” she said. “So if somebody’s doing something, these things will deter them.”
