City students recognized at board meeting

A few students and staff members of the Cullman City School System were recognized for their accomplishments during Tuesday night’s meeting of the Cullman City School Board.
The board congratulated the Cullman Middle School FFA chapter for being named a Gold Chapter at the 2019 FFA State Convention and for placing first in the Cullman County Forestry Contest.
In recognition of Dyslexia Awareness Month, the system’s Dyslexia Interventionist was also recognized during the meeting.
Thanks to a partnership with the City of Cullman, the system was able to hire Rhonda Smith for the position, and Cullman City Schools Superintendent Susan Patterson thanked her for the work that she has been doing with the city’s students.
Some of the board’s members also received recognition during the meeting after earning 2019 Alabama Association of School Board Member Academy Achievements. Joey Orr was recognized for reaching Level 3, and Chris Branham and Lee Powell were recognized for reaching Level 2.
In other business, the board:
Approved September 2019 payroll of $2,134,558.42, invoices paid of $867,692.50, financial statements and bank reconciliations.
Gave permission to surplus/salvage 13 Dell and NEC projectors at Cullman City Primary School.
Gave permission for Cullman Middle School FFA to attend the National FFA Convention & Expo in Indianapolis, Indiana on Oct. 29 through Nov. 1.
Gave permission for Cullman High School Choir to travel to the Southern Star Music Festival in Atlanta, Georgia on March 27-29.
Gave permission for CHS Cheerleaders to attend a cheerleader competition in Louisville, Kentucky on Nov. 2.
Selected Joey Orr to serve as School Board Liaison to Cullman City Schools Foundation Board.
Passed a resolution authorizing the issuance of warrants for the purpose of, but not limited to, construction of new buildings, renovation of existing buildings and various infrastructure improvements.
Gave permission to issue Bid #10-22-19-01 for a special needs bus and accept the lowest responsible bidder.
Approved an agreement with the City of Cullman to accept conveyance of property, payable in single installment upon demand.
Approved the following revised Board Policies: 2.5.5 Public Participation, 5.1 Employee Leave, 6.1.2.c.i.C Non-Resident Status, 6.1.2.c.v Change of Residency Status.
Gave permission to change the November payroll date to Nov. 22 and the December payroll date to Dec. 20.
Gave permission for Head Start to contract with Dr. Katie Stidham for dental services for the 2019-2020 school year.
Gave permission to contract with The Learning Tree, Inc. to provide special education services beginning October 1, 2019 to September 30, 2020.
Approved of Memorandum of Agreement between Cullman City Board of Education and The Woolley Institute for Spoken-Language Education beginning Oct. 1 to Sept. 30, 2020.
Gave permission to provide a stipend of $1,500 to Diane Law for administrative assistance to the Cullman City Schools Foundation beginning October 2019 through September 2020 (Funded by CCS Foundation).

Charlotte Hood – transfer from CNP (6.5 hour) worker at Cullman High School to CNP (6.5 hour) worker/floater, effective Oct. 1.
