- CCS Superintendent Kyle Kallhoff, left, and board member Jill Bradberry, center, recognizes CHS Junior Navaeh Green.
The venue for Cullman City School Board’s monthly meeting may have been moved from Cullman High School to the district’s central office on Tuesday, Oct. 17, but that did not deter from the tradition of recognizing several representatives from the meeting’s original location.
CHS library aide Carol Kilpatrick was chosen as the honorary support employee largely due to her volunteering efforts to supply the gatekeepers with food and beverages during sporting events throughout her 28-year career at the school.
Superintendent Kyle Kallhoff also recognized CHS English teacher Robin Cook, who he said brought her experiences from a successful customer service career to her teaching role when she transitioned careers in 2005. Cook has also been involved in a host of extracurricular activities including tennis, cross-county, Key Club sponsor and former Fair Queen Pageant MC.
Lastly, CHS junior Navaeh Green was selected by faculty members as the honorary student representative. Kallhoff noted Green’s intentions to attend the University of South Alabama where she planned to pursue a degree in education. As a two-time graduate of USA, Kallhoff told Green he had contacted former U.S. Representative and current USA President Jo Bonnor to inform him of Green’s desire to attend the university. “He said he will be looking for you,” Kallhoff said.
In addition to her responsibilities of a feature twirler in the CHS Marching Band, Green is a member of the Future Teachers of America organization and regularly volunteers with the Cullman City Primary School extended day program.
Kallhoff requested for Green to keep in touch and be sure to contact him upon receiving her degree.
The board also maintained another tradition of restructuring itself by electing new officers each October.
Current board president Cheryl Harrison maintained her role for another year while current vice-president Amy Carter nominated Chris Branham as her replacement.
Kallhoff formally nominated Katie Jackson to take over the duties of the board’s official recording secretary.
Kallhoff also recommended his reappointment as the official who is responsible for the signing of official documents, federal proposals, grants and applications for funds.
