Stacy White wants to find her sister-in-law Tabitha Franklin, and to help others in the quest to find missing people she has planned an event.
“We want to keep her name and picture out there,” White said.
White, along with help from Tabitha’s family, is organizing an event for families of the missing as a time to come together and remember those who are lost, and also to share about the dangers that go along with becoming a missing person.
“We are doing things on why people may go missing,” White said.
The event will be at Sportsman’s Lake Park Saturday, May 8, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
“We are doing an awareness event for families with missing family members,” White said.
There will be free identification kits from children donated by Sheriff Tyler Roden.
“DNA is the one of the most important things when someone goes missing,” White said. “They will do the DNA swabs and make the ID kits.
“We have 148 sexual predators in Cullman County. With that staggering number, we want to get the ID kit’s done and let people know about dangers.”
White believes in some cases, because of socioeconomic status, many missing persons cases do not get the media coverage or police attention others may get.
“There are families out there that don’t get the attention they deserve,” she said.
White said there’s nothing new in her sister-in-law’s case.
“We have requested a family status update,” she said. “But as of right now there is nothing new.”
Tabitha Franklin, 29, of Cullman — has been missing since Aug. 8, 2009. She has blond hair, is 5 feet, 6 inches tall and weighs approximately 140 pounds according to a flyer being distributed by her family.
White said Franklin’s three children miss their mom every day.
“The whole family is trying to keep her name out there,” she said.
Franklin’s children will be participating in the event with singing and a puppet show.
“We will have a puppet show about good and bad touching,” White said.
There will also be a motorcycle ride and balloon release.
Sen. Zeb Little will be speaking as well as Kim Bevis from the Child Advocacy Center and Leah Costello.
There will be hot-dogs, chips and drinks for sale for a small charge.
White thanked Pepsi for sponsoring the event.
