Weather: Just like yesterday. Once again, it will be sunny with highs reaching the 90 degree mark. Mostly clear skies tonight, with lows in the middle 60s. There’s a chance of widely scattered showers and thunderstorms, with highs through Memorial Day near 90 and lows in the middle 60s. The chances of rain each day are 20 percent or less.

Two new middle school principals appointed. The Jefferson County Board of Education has moved Terry Henderson over to run North Jefferson Middle School; he served this past year at Hueytown Elementary, and he replaces Craig Canaday, who is moving over to Mortimer Jordan High. And at Bragg Middle, Sandra Lyle is now permanently appointed as principal; she’s been serving as the interim principal since the first of the year, when Neal Underwood left to run the county system’s transportation department.

Sports: Freshmen are key in marathon struggle. Freshman third baseman Peyton Grantham’s lead-off home run in the bottom of the 12th inning gave Alabama a 6-5 victory over Nebraska in the first game of the best-of-three NCAA super regional playoff Thursday night. The Tide had struggled against the Cornhuskers early on, as starting pitcher Jaclyn Traina was chased out of the circle after four innings. But freshman Sydney Littlejohn’s relief stint lasted eight innings, as she held Nebraska scoreless. Marisa Runyon’s solo homer in the bottom of the seventh tied the game and sent it into extra innings. Game Two is tonight at 5 p.m. at Rhoads Stadium, with an if-necessary game to follow.
