It’s Tuesday, as we start a short work week and the end of the school year…
Weather: Hit or miss. Mostly sunny skies today with a 30 percent chance of an isolated shower or thunderstorm this afternoon, and highs in the upper 80s. Lows tonight will fall to the middle 60s. Rain chances will increase a bit on Wednesday.
A chilling message. Clues are beginning to surface into the mind of Elliot Rodger, the young son of a Hollywood director who is accused of killing six people and wounding 13 others before shooting and killing himself Friday night in the college town of Isla Vista, California, around the campus of the UC-Santa Barbara. Rodger – who apparently killed three roommates, then other random victims near a sorority house and in a deli – left what Forbes.com called a “disturbing Internet footprint” in which he ranted about being rejected sexually by women. A YouTube video called “Elliot Rodger’s Retribution,” which he made not long before the incident, has gone viral. In it, Rodger ranted against women who had spurned his advances for eight years. Rodger suffered from Asperger syndrome, a mild form of autism.
Sports: Pushed to the brink. The defending Stanley Cup champion Chicago Blackhawks are one loss away from elimination, after the Los Angeles Kings opened up with three early goals to take a 5-2 victory in the NHL Western Conference finals series Monday. The Kings hold a three games to one edge in the best-of-seven playoff; they play again in Chicago on Wednesday night. Tonight, the New York Rangers will try to finish off Montreal in the Eastern Conference finals; the Rangers hold a 3-1 lead in that series… NBA: The Miami Heat knocked off the Indiana Pacers 102-90 on Monday to take a three games to one lead in the Eastern Conference finals. LeBron James led Miami with 32 points and 10 rebounds. Tonight, the Western Conference finals resume with San Antonio at Oklahoma City; the Spurs lead that series two games to one.
