Weather: We’ve heard this before. There’s a 50 percent chance of showers or thunderstorms today, primarily in the afternoon, with highs in the lower 80s. Lows tonight will drop to the middle 60s with a 30 percent chance of rain. This same pattern continues through the weekend and on into Monday.

On second thought... The Pinson City Council reversed itself during a special meeting Thursday night, voting to allow a zoning change for a property on Alabama Highway 75. The move permits a food distribution warehouse to be built there. The council had previously turned down the request with one member absent, but later voted to reconsider. This time, the rezoning passed on a 5-1 vote, with Mayor Hoyt Sanders casting the lone opposing vote. The approval came despite the objections of several nearby residents, but also with a number of restrictive covenants in place.

Sports: Big beginning for Bama. The Crimson Tide softball team got off to a good start Thursday in the Women’s College World Series, as Jackie Traina pitched a one-hitter in a 6-2 victory over defending champion Oklahoma. Two home runs – a three-run shot by Peyton Grantham and a two-run line drive blast by Jadyn Spencer – made the difference for Alabama. They face Kentucky tonight in the second round at Oklahoma City; it’s on ESPN2 at 8:30 p.m…. NHL: Dominic Moore scored the only goal of the game late in the second period, as the New York Rangers won their way into the Stanley Cup Finals with a 1-0 win Thursday over Montreal. The Rangers took the Eastern Conference finals series, four games to two. They’ll face the Western Conference winner, which will be either Los Angeles or Chicago; the Kings have a 3-2 lead going into Game 6 tonight… NBA: San Antonio was dominant in their 117-89 win over Oklahoma City, and have taken a three-games-to-two lead in the Western Conference finals series. Tim Duncan led the Spurs with 22 point and 12 rebounds.
