A Pinson man is jailed, pending formal charges of assault and domestic violence for a stabbing incident Wednesday.
Richard Darrell Umphrey, 28, is held on probable cause after Trussville Police accuse him of stabbing his wife in the parking lot of Sam’s Club on Trussville Crossings Parkway. A police spokesman says that Umphrey was seen on the store’s surveillance video stabbing her in the neck.
A passer-by took the woman to an urgent-care facility nearby. Umphrey had fled the scene when police arrived, and a be-on-the-lookout was issued to surrounding areas. Umphrey was later picked up by Jefferson County Sheriff’s deputies and turned over to Trussville.
Additional charges may be forthcoming if the district attorney’s office deems them appropriate.
