Gardendale council appoints committee for economic growth

The Gardendale City Council appointed a new Business and Economic Development Committee at their regular meeting on Monday.

In addition to Gardendale Mayor Othell Phillips, Chamber of Commerce President and the Planning and Zoning Commission Chairman, the committee also consists of four Gardendale business owners or operators in good standing who serve two-year terms and two current Gardendale residents who serve one year terms. The city attorney and a commercial realtor serve in advisory roles.

The four business owners and operators appointed at the meeting are Kevin Green, Mike Holmes, Michael Lloyd and Dean Taylor. Dwayne Jeffreys and Frank Montgomery fill the Gardendale citizen spots.

The committee’s duties include proposing a vision statement for the city, identifying reasons to live, work, play and invest in Gardendale, examining other city plans for economic development, hiring  a professional Economic Consultant for the city, among others.

The council also accepted a bid from Richardson Construction, Inc. for the expansion and renovation project of the Gardendale-Martha Moore Public Library. The company’s bid was for $1,220,000.
