Feral pigs causing problems in Morris

Wild pigs have reportedly been sighted on several pieces of property along Turkey Creek and Cunningham Creek in Morris.
Morris police and town hall officials say they have begun receiving calls from people, mostly farmers, about the wild animals. Morris councilman Ray Densmore Densmore said the town council plans to vote on an ordinance at the regular council meeting on Feb. 28 that will decide how the town deals with the problem. The current plan is a form of controlled extermination. Hunting feral pigs is legal year-round (although it’s illegal to transport one alive), but Densmore said the council wants to limit who can do it within Morris.
The Castle Pines and Moncrief Road regions of Gardendale saw an unusual number of the beasts over the summer, as well. Gardendale veterinarian Dr. Ted Hankes, of All Creatures Pet Hospital, said the pigs tended to be destructive, and can also destroy crops and even lawns. He also said they tend to travel in large packs.
