Sophomore quarterback Deandreas Merriweather scored touchdowns on runs of 45 and 52 yards, as Mortimer Jordan defeated Hanceville 21-14 in two periods of varsity play at a pre-season jamboree game Thursday night.
Merriweather scored in the first period after a 20-yard pass from Orion Recke to Devlin Hodges set up the play.
Merriweather’s second scoring dash was set up in the first series of the second period, with Hodges at quarterback, who found Logan Motte for 26 yards. The touchdown came on the very next play.
Jordan gave up the ball on the opening drive when Recke gave up an interception, and the Bulldogs moved quickly to score the opening touchdown.
But with 14:07 left in the first period, the Devils tied the game in two plays, the second of which was a 74-yard breakaway run by Marquis Dobbs.
Jordan had another chance to score in the first period, when Recke threw to Motte for 20 yards and James Day then ran for 24. But the Devils turned the ball over on a fumble.
