“I’ve been interested in art since childhood,” she said. “My Dad was a draftsman.”

In addition to professional framing services, Jerrolds also teaches art classes almost every day. She teaches both children and adults of almost any age; she has one student that is only four years old.

“I love the creativity of it. It’s amazing to watch someone make art, to watch something develop and wonder where they got the idea.”

She said she has more students that are children than students that are adults, and usually starts with simple line drawings, then moves on to art markers and colored pencils.

“Most kids have some natural creativity, and they’ll lose it if it’s not encouraged.” said Jerrolds.

Jerrolds believes art is therapeutic, especially for children.

“And especially for people who have problems at home,” she said. “Kids may have problems at school, too, like with peer pressure.”

Jerrolds originally opened her business in Gardendale in the late 1980s, then moved to Morris about two years ago.  Before that, Jerrolds worked in a few art galleries, and she turned her store into a gallery as well. She said sports prints always sell well.

“Your art sells if it has an emotional appeal,” said Jerrolds.
