That’s Just Super! ArDarius Stewart named to ASWA Super 12

Fultondale quarterback/safety ArDarius Stewart was named to the ASWA Super 12 Team, and also the Class 2A All-State First Team after leading the Wildcats to the third round of the playoffs for the first time in school history. Stewart was the only junior on the Super 12, a group which includes at least four Alabama commitments.

The honors keep rolling in for ArDarius Stewart.

The Fultondale quarterback/safety was named to the Alabama Sports Writers Association’s Super 12 Team, putting him among the elite of high school football players across the state.

The honor goes along with his being named to the Class 2A All-State First Team by the ASWA, and a nomination for Back of the Year in 2A as well. The latter also makes him eligible for selection as Mr. Football, but Stewart is a longshot for that award with the likes of Hueytown’s Jameis “Jaboo” Winston and Daphne’s T.J. Yeldon in the running.

Stewart is the only junior on the Super 12, a group which was revived by the ASWA this year after an absence of several years.

Stewart was the only local player to make the ASWA First Team in his class, but six others were given honorable mentions, most of them also from Fultondale. The others:

Jared Stewart, Fultondale, DB. The younger brother of ArDarius, Jared Stewart stepped up his game late in the season and in the Wildcats’ playoff run. He was the only eighth-grade varsity player to receive any award from the ASWA this year.

Deundrea Marshall, Fultondale, WR. The senior was the elder Stewart’s target of choice again this season, as well as a speedy kick return man, often paired with ArDarius Stewart.

Julian Hardy, Fultondale, LB. The junior racked up double digits in tackles for every game this season.

Troy Elliott, Corner, PK. The junior was narrowly nosed out for first-team honors by Cesar Diaz of North Jackson. Elliott, a junior, has two 51-yard field goals and multiple game-winners to his credit over the past two seasons.

Jordan Howard, Gardendale, RB.  The junior was a rare bright spot in an otherwise lackluster Rockets campaign, and was the team’s primary offensive weapon. He returns to what should be a greatly-improved team in 2012.

Logan Motte, Mortimer Jordan, WR. Motte overcame major quarterback issues for the Blue Devils as he caught for 1,000 yards.
