Basketball roundup: Rockets sixth at Gulf Shores; Wildcats fall at Hueytown

COCA-COLA GULF SHORES CHRISTMAS TOURNAMENT
Benjamin Russell 74, Gardendale 64: In the fifth place game Wednesday, Nathan Sheffield scored 37 points with three 3-point shots, and Jeremy Gardner added 14 points with four treys for the Rockets.
Gardendale (7-7) pulled to within three points of the Wildcats in the fourth quarter, but couldn’t overcome their advantage on the offensive boards, where they pulled down 16 rebounds.
Gardendale 76, Leroy 12: The record books aren’t clear, but the Rockets held the Bears to one of the lowest point totals in the school’s varsity boys’ history in Tuesday’s consolation semifinal.
Jeremy Gardner scored 13 points and Trey Evans had 12, as Gardendale had 12 players score and swiped 33 steals.
No. 9 (5A) Gulf Shores 82, Gardendale 63: In Monday’s opening round, the Dolphins outscored the Rockets 19-2 during a three-minute spell in the final period.
Brandon Silvers led Gulf Shores with 21 points. Nathan Sheffield and Jeremy Gardener had 18 each for Gardendale.
IRON WORKS FITNESS HUEYTOWN INVITATIONAL
Walker 52, Fultondale 47: In Tuesday’s consolation bracket play, ArDarius Stewart had 19 points to lead all scorers. Brandon Thursby scored 13 for the Vikings, and Michael Bridges had 11.
Leeds 51, Fultondale 37: In Monday’s first round, Stewart again led all scorers with 20 points, knocking down four 3-pointers. Deandric Thomas led the Green Wave with 11 points.
