The slab has been poured and walls are partially up at the Fultondale Fire Station No. 2. City officials said the building should be finished by spring.

The Fultondale City Council on Monday approved a $5,890 change order for repairs to Fire Station No. 1 behind city hall.

Since an April 27 tornado destroyed part of the building, firefighters have been working out of a large tent for trucks and equipment, and a trailer for the office.

Fire Chief Larry Holcomb said final inspection for the renovated building was Tuesday; he said the department was “99 percent moved back in” to the facility.

“Almost all of the phones are plugged in, the trucks are back in,” he said. The main thing lacking is furniture for offices and the day room.

Holcomb said the tent and trailer, sitting in the parking lot behind the fire hall, should be gone by Saturday.

Meanwhile, Fultondale Fire Station No. 2 is well under way. Crews have poured the slabs at the building on Walker Chapel Road, and the walls are partially up.

The council also authorized Mayor Jim Lowery to enter into an agreement with TMI Productions for services for nine city-wide events in the city during fiscal year 2011-2012. The company organizes the Fultondale Founders Day Festival, Christmas tree lighting ceremony, mayor’s prayer breakfast, state of the city address and community events such as the annual bonfire, according to Randy Posey, who works for TMI and is assistant director of public works for the city of Fultondale

Posey, whose brother Joe Posey owns TMI Productions, said the company organizes certain city events in addition to handling graphic design, press releases and branding the events.

In other business, the council:

• authorized Lowery to enter into an agreement with Alabama Power Company for the installation of street lights at 3010 Moonlight Lane, the intersection of Burlington Road and Whaley Road, and the intersection of 58th Street and 33rd Street

• voted to condemn three structures, located at: 704 Broad St., 1208 3rd Ave. and 1308 Old Walker Chapel Rd.

• appointed Phillip Burgett to the Zoning Board of Adjustments, with his term expiring on Oct. 1, 2013

• changed the regular Dec. 26 council meeting to Dec. 19 at 11:30 a.m. because city hall will be closed on Dec. 26.
