The Corner Yellow Jackets have started the 2007 season slowly, but a win this Friday during homecoming week would be nice reward for a team that’s been fighting to get into the win column.
This week the Yellow Jackets will host the Cleveland Panthers, who are coming off a physical game with Fultondale.
“They’re a good team that plays hard,” Smith said of Cleveland. “They’ve got a good quarterback and they can run it, too.”
Smith said his club needs to eliminate mistakes this week if they’re going to have a chance to pick up their first victory of the season.
“We’ve got to improve in the little things this week in practice and go out and play hard Friday night,” he said. “If we take care of Corner and don’t kill ourselves with mistakes and turnovers, then we can have a chance to win.”
Some younger players will likely have to take the field for Corner, after some starter suffered injuries against Oneonta last week.
As many as three starters could be out for the Cleveland game, with safety Taylor McAdams being lost for the year due to his injury.
“Some kids will have to play, who haven’t been on the field yet,” Smith pointed out.
