A Gardendale business celebrated its ribbon cutting Friday, months after first opening.
Hamburger Heaven, which opened in April, welcomed residents and other business owners to the ceremony.
Owner Allen Folse, who had been the franchise director of operations for Burger King in Gardendale, said when Burger King closed in 2005, he said he wanted to open another venture in that location.
He said he felt Hamburger Heaven could be successful in Gardendale and became a franchisee. He said the store’s location on Decatur Highway, near Food World, was ideal.
Unfortunately, Folse had many setbacks in the process of opening up another restaurant, including his wife’s passing, difficulty finding financing, a near-fatal motorcycle accident and difficulties obtaining necessary health department permits.
Folse said a banner which read “Hamburger Heaven, opening eventually,” was inspired by all the delays in getting the business open.
Gardendale Mayor Kenny Clemons said despite Folse’s difficulties in opening his store, he was glad to have Hamburger Heaven in Gardendale. Clemons told Folse he had been in the prayers of the council during his difficult times.
Folse thanked Clemons for the council’s support and said he has enjoyed being part of the community and looks forward to staying open in Gardendale for 10 years or more.
