Tomorrow is Grandparent’s Day and I don’t want to miss an opportunity to tell my grandparents how much they mean to me. I have been blessed to have such wonderful grandparents. They are C.J. and Betty Shaver and Anna Louise Tesseneer and Dayton Ozelle Tesseneer. I couldn’t ask for a better family tree than the one that I live in. I also want to wish a happy Grandparent’s Day to Mayor Kenny Clemons. He said that I was the only one who remembered last year, so I don’t want to let him down. Have a great day!

• Gardendale High School is having an open house on Sept. 11 at 6 p.m. Parents can pick up students’ schedules in the lobby and follow their schedule to meet with teachers. The Gardendale High School Parents and Teachers Association will also be there for any parent who would like to join the PTA. Membership dues are $5 per family.

• The North Jefferson Womens Center needs your help with their upcoming yard sale. All donations are tax deductible. They are in need of any furniture, appliances, tools or jewelry. The yard sale will be held Sept. 21 and 22. For more information about drop off and possible pick ups, call Mary Stokes at 631-8809 or Regina Jackson at 631-6689.

• Snow Rogers School is having a Swamp John’s dinner on Monday. The menu will include catfish, chicken tenders or shrimp. The cost is $9 per plate. For more information, call 379-5400.

• There will be a giant yard sale on Sept. 14 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Sept. 15 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Gardendale Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church. All proceeds will go toward local, national and international outreach missions. Support your local church and get a good buy while doing it.

• Happy first birthday to Matthew and Katie Blizard on Sept. 11. They are the children of Greg and Tracie Blizard of Gardendale. Greg is a lieutenant at the Gardendale Fire Department. Paternal grandparents are Tip and Joann Blizard of Fultondale.

• Sept. 30 will be a free zoo day at the Birmingham Zoo, sponsored by Regions Bank, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
